As you know, since you follow this blog, I love decoration and I always have itchy feet when it comes to shopping for decoration. I am attracted (alas!) by pretty pieces and I have a few at home. In particular my Vertigo chandelier that I love.
But I also like old furniture, picked up here and there during my walks.
One of my favorite destinations is in Provence, in L'Isle-sur-la Sorgue, where antique dealers and second-hand dealers abound for our greatest pleasure.
I enjoy rummaging around, looking for the little piece, the little object that will match the rest of my interior.
At home, the decoration is a mix of old and modern and I like family furniture that has a soul.
I like the idea that this or that object belonged to a family, that it is patinated by time and that it has a history. Like this coffee grinder found at a flea market in Bouzigues.
Once the object or piece of furniture is at home, I take great pleasure in maintaining it, either stripping it if it needs it, or cleaning and polishing it to restore its patina.
I love the smell of wax, I love rubbing and making an object shine! It may seem a little strange, in this era of disposable items, but I think that old objects and furniture deserve our attention and care.
I sometimes spend hours hanging around second-hand stores dreaming about the origins of objects.
I loved the concept of the restaurant Aux Ateliers, which I told you about in this article, which is an open-air flea market where customers can leave with the object of their choice.
I actually spent more time exploring the garden paths than choosing the menu!
When you walk through the aisles of a flea market, chance can make you find all sorts of unusual objects: a vase, a piece of jewelry, an old book, collectible records.
For me, it's a little adventure every time I visit because I never know what I might discover.
The interest of bargain hunting:
Swedish stores and other large furniture stores are everywhere, but you have to look hard to find second-hand dealers.
And if, like me, you have this little addiction, there is a site made for you! The flea market calendar.
The flea market calendar lists all the garage sales, all the flea markets and for the “fashionistas” all the clothes sales throughout France!
For Montpellier, just click on this link and you will have in real time the calendar of all these activities in the region. Whatever the region, chosen, just search for it and you will find your happiness to rummage at leisure.
For paper fans, the Flea Market calendar also offers a paper book that is easy to obtain in some newsagents. You can also find them online.
Sometimes we want to organize a garage sale or a closet sale, but the problem is how to promote it and attract people, which is the goal after all!
The site offers you Resapuces an online registration software to promote your event in your city or region. A simple and effective way to attract people.
I have discovered new places, thanks to this site, to satisfy my desire for antiques in my region and I will be able to occupy my next autumn weekends to walk the aisles of the second-hand dealers.
And you, do you go to flea markets?
