Comme je vous l’avais dit dans mon article intitulé « De l’inutilité d’un grand dressing » que vous pouvez relire ici, j’ai transformé une pièce qui me servait de dressing en "petit boudoir".
When I moved into my house, the children having left home, we didn't need three bedrooms. So I decided to transform the smallest room into a huge dressing room.
It consisted mainly of cupboards on all the walls. Over time, I realized that it was a shame to sacrifice a room just for clothes and I wanted to give it back its function as a mini-bedroom.
I wanted it to be warm, comfortable and light and I wanted to give it a little bohemian feel.
As always when I prepare an interior design project I get inspiration from Pinterest and create an inspiration board. It is imperative before starting to choose the color harmonies, materials and objects. Of course, you have to take into account the size of the room and its usefulness.
My inspiration board
I needed an extra bedroom but still wanted to keep my dressing room. The solution: find a small sofa, eliminate a large closet, but keep two others and dress them with doors.
We set to work with Chéri.
The start of work in my small room
The first thing to do is to take down the cupboards, so that you can paint the ceiling and walls.
As the room is small, 11 m2, we chose a light linen-coloured paint. I wanted to personalize it a little with wallpaper, and I chose imitation stone paper.
Also, to avoid overloading, I only wallpapered one wall.
I really like my house, but I don't like the tiles, and I intend to redo them everywhere over time.
I took advantage of this renovation to test the installation of white parquet flooring in this room.
Parquet tiles ““clip-on” which are easily fixed to the tiles without having to break everything.
The work part, painting, wallpapering, and laying the parquet flooring took us a little time, because we did everything ourselves.
When I undertake work, I tend to want to do everything in one day, to quickly, very quickly see the results!
There I was reasonable and it took us 10 days to finish them.
The decoration of my small room
Then I got down to the decoration part, which is of course my favorite.
Of the three cupboards we kept two.
For a closet that I had installed in a recess in the wall, with a dressing kit from Lapeyre, I couldn't put doors, so I chose to dress it with a beige linen curtain. For the other one, found at Ikea, it was enough to choose doors adapted to the structure and install them. I installed a very practical mirror door in a dressing room.
As the room is small the difficulty was to find a space-saving sofa bed.
And it's quite difficult! Finally, I chose a small one BZ.
Still to give light and not to overload the room, I chose white linen curtains, transparent.
Once all these arrangements were completed, it was time to refine the decoration to find the little touches that personalize the room. I was surprised during the last stay at Jany and her husband's house, to be offered a beautiful plaid, cushions and the small stool. So there was practically nothing left to buy! I added two cushions, boxes as a bedside table and a few small decorative elements.
Even though the sofa is small, as it is near the closet, I couldn't put a real night table on it. So I chose to put a lamp directly on the wall. This lamp is homemade, it is very simple to make.
The Die for the lamp:
A rough wooden square, a large light bulb, a long wire
Just paint the bracket, wrap the wire around it and plug in the bulb!
A child's game that costs nothing and has a certain effect.
The rest of the decor is made up of a small shelf, a garland, cushions and two blankets. A small stool and pretty boxes complete the set.
I didn't want to overload this room which has become my little boudoir, it's still a dressing room, because I kept two large cupboards, but it has regained its function as a spare bedroom and I feel particularly good there.
Shopping works:
Parquet Castorama
Painting and wallpaper: Séguret 26 Rue Roland Garros, 34130 Mauguio. For the people of Montpellier, I recommend this human-sized store, where the products are of excellent quality and the advice is always relevant.
