Holidays are a great time to read. I have prepared a selection of books quite eclectic that will allow you to relax, learn, cook or shiver!
These books are on my summer reading list. And I thought that, like me, you might want to dive into them.

Detective novels in my book selection
If you have been following me for a long time, you know my addiction to quality thrillers. I never tire of diving into the twists and turns of investigations concocted by talented authors who make me shiver with happiness! And, of course, I have a few favorite authors whose literary releases I never miss.
This year 6 books caught my attention
I have a predilection for detective novels written by women. These detective divas are increasingly leading the editorial dance.
The plots, atmospheres and characters developed by today's female writers are radically different from the imagination of their male counterparts. They give detective novels a new and seductive tone. With a feminine approach to murder. Their elegant pen is more subtle in my opinion than that of male crime writers. For the holidays I have chosen three.
Fred Vargas
My favorite! I have read all of her books since my daughter introduced me to them. Leave quickly and come back late a book that I recommend to you to discover this author. I just got her latest opus On the slab a new investigation by Commander Adamsberg. There is no doubt that this book will give me many hours of happiness!

The dolmen you told me about, Johan, is it on the road to the little bridge? – Two kilometers after the little bridge, don't get it wrong. On your left, you can't miss it. It's splendid, all its stones are still standing. – How old is a dolmen? – About four thousand years old. – So stones penetrated by the centuries. It's perfect for me. – But perfect for what? – And what were these dolmens used for? Adamsberg asked without answering. – They are funerary monuments. Tombs, if you prefer, made of upright stones covered by large slabs. I hope that doesn't bother you. – Not at all. That's where I'm going to lie down, up high on the slab, in the sun. – And what the hell are you going to do on that? – I don't know, Johan
Johana Gustawsson
A French novelist, author of detective novels. It's quite rare to discover her. So I got her famous novel in paperback: Block 46. It will be a great discovery for me because I don't know her at all. But given some literary reviews about this book I think I'm going to like it.
Block 46

Falkenberg. Sweden. Commissioner Bergström finds the naked and frozen corpse of a woman near Olofsbo beach. London. Renowned profiler, the dark Emily Roy investigates a series of murders of children whose savagely mutilated bodies were abandoned in the woods of Hampstead, north of the city. They have the same mutilations as the Swedish victim: torn trachea, enucleated eyes and a mysterious Y engraved on the arm. Strange serial killer, who changes the type of prey and the place of hunting… Could it be a tandem of sociopaths?
Camilla Lackberg
I often talk to you about Camilla on this blog. I love this talented Swedish author.
She gave up her series in which she directed Erica Falck and Patrik Hedström which I deplore! But I will dive in and discover with delight his new series with Vincent and Mina, hero of his last two novels The cult et the magic box.
The magic box
4th cover
Gröna Lund, Stockholm's must-see amusement park. Between stationary rides and distressing darkness, a box pierced with swords containing a woman's body is found. For new investigator Mina Dahbiri, the case is beyond the police's skills. Vincent Walder, an expert in mentalism and nonverbal communication, agrees to lend her a hand.
Is this a magic trick gone wrong or a Machiavellian killer? In addition to their talents, a visit to the police archives should help the duo find answers…
The cult
4th cover
After “The Magic Box”, the exceptional talents of Camilla Läckberg and Henrik Fexeus combine once again to stage detective Mina Dahbiri and the great mentalist Vincent Walder – an extraordinary duo with multiple neuroses, but strangely complicit.
Women's novels in my book selection
In the “silly” but very entertaining series, I chose a book for my vacation that promises to be hilarious. Pull in your stomach and smile a book by Laurence Beaudoin-Masse
A very current fiction, the story of a “influencer” famously caught in its own traps and contradictions.
This book is jubilant and denounces the emptiness of these influencers who pretend to be stars by flirting on social networks. I think this novel, which is very close to reality, will be very entertaining.
Pull in your stomach and smile
4th cover
Who doesn't dream of shining through other people's screens, and being the next rising star of the Internet adored by all? But here's the thing: stars only shine for a while.
Every day, Elie motivates her hundreds of thousands of subscribers to become the best version of themselves. The ultimate success story, the influencer has made her place on the popularity podium: a singer boyfriend, a dream body and a star's life. However, when the curtains close, the show is not as bright. Between her unhealthy obsession with the “ideal weight”, the destruction of herself for the benefit of her digital persona who succeeds at everything, the pretenses that reign in the world of influence and love stories, Elie must do her best to remain honest and toe the line, which is not always easy. The young girl will oscillate between the concessions to make to maintain her image and the doubts she feels when faced with the inconsistency of some of her actions, between the relationships of love and friendship on which she does not really know if she can rely, and between the attraction to glory and the desire to exile herself from all this glitter. Authentic and funny, while attacking the delicate subject of eating disorders and the false perfection conveyed by social networks, Rentre son ventre et sourire is just as touching as it screams out a truth that is too current.
A practical book
A cookbook, but not just any cookbook, an essential book for making your own bread! And doing it well.
Valérie Zanon's sourdough
4th cover
Everything, you will know (almost) everything about sourdough! A natural and living leavening agent, sourdough develops when a mixture of flour and water is left to rest for several days. Unlike baker's yeast, it develops aromas and textures, increases the bread's conservation capacity, but also predigests gluten and degrades the phytic acid contained in flour, which allows even those with intolerances to consume fresh, digestible and tasty bread. Making your own sourdough requires several steps and a little patience. The existing methods, often complicated, can discourage the best intentions. Valérie Zanon tested them a lot herself before being able to develop her own, simple and almost foolproof thanks to an educational step-by-step guide that allows you to visualize the gestures and textures to reproduce. You'll find breads that are as good as the baker's, as well as delicious sweet and savory recipes from all over the world – brioches, challah, pizzas, focaccia, brownies, msemmens, etc. – without forgetting those that teach you how to recycle your excess sourdough or leftover bread with relish.
The case of digital books
That's a lot of books to fit in my suitcase. And I could, of course, get a tablet to carry more. But I can't bring myself to do that.
I tried reading on a tablet for financial reasons, because books are cheaper and you can download a lot of them.
But I can't do it, for me a book must have pages to turn, I must be able to feel them, leaf through them, come back to them to look at a passage… I need to touch the book to appreciate it. So I stay in my comfort zone by taking a suitcase of books!
I hope this little list of books to read during the holidays will inspire you. Don't hesitate to give me your opinion and especially to suggest books that you like to inspire me!
