The cicadas have fallen silent, the swimsuits are put away, the aperitifs on the terrace and the long sea baths are nothing more than a sweet memory. We enter autumn. This particular season, a pivot between the lightness of summer and the coldness of winter, is appreciated in different ways. If I love summer and the warmth of the sun on my skin, I am always delighted to welcome autumn. a cocooning season par excellence. And as a good homebody I like to find myself in my cocoon: my house.
For some people, autumn is synonymous with depression, the days get shorter, the cold sets in, fatigue and low morale appear.
In order to combat the ambient gloom, the current economic situation and the risk of an atomic bomb on our cities, I have decided to remain optimistic and to give you 8 good reasons to love autumn!
1/ Rediscover your home and pamper your interior.
In my opinion, autumn is the best season to rediscover the pleasures of home. To allow yourself moments of relaxation, “letting go” and cocooning.
And to feel good at home, there's nothing like taking care of your house.
Besides decorating, let's start with cleaning!
I never do the famous “big spring cleaning”, but I always do the “big autumn cleaning”! Simply because in spring and summer we live outside and I let go of my phobia of cleaning in favor of days in the open air. Well, I still clean the terrace which becomes my second living room for 5 months.
My big fall cleaning
It all starts with a big sort out and yes again! I empty my cupboards, I get rid of the useless and it does a world of good for morale. Then I go through each room and clean it thoroughly.
I love finding blankets and cushions that, once machine washed, smell clean and promise beautiful, peaceful evenings.
I also take out my warmer clothes from my closet and I take great pleasure in finding my soft, clean sweaters and cardigans again.
A little tip: I discovered an eco-friendly laundry detergent brand that I really recommend. It smells delicious too!

And to perfect your fall decoration, treat yourself to a pretty bouquet in natural tones.
2/ Autumn is the perfect season for walks
If you follow me, you learned of the death of my dog Cooky last March. I had decided not to take another animal, so as not to suffer from his departure, but I cracked, and this summer we adopted a little Tosca.
However, a puppy requires attention and especially needs to go on long walks to be well trained. And Tosca, like a good Yorkshire, is stubborn and does as she pleases.
So I take advantage of the still pleasant evenings to take her for long walks along the ponds or on the beach, trying to make her understand that she has to do her business outside!
These breaks in my very busy days recharge my batteries and I particularly enjoy walks along the seaside, practically alone in the world at this time of year deserted by tourists.
Living very close to the Camargue, I also enjoy discovering arid landscapes where I only come across bulls and horses.
No matter where you live, try to find a nice place to treat yourself free luxury of a daily walk in nature. And I confess that I prefer these landscapes a thousand times over a closed gym that smells of sweat.
3/ The return of cocooning
One of the main reasons that make me love autumn, curling up in a blanket on my sofa watching a Netflix series or reading a book, having first lit the first wood fire of the season.
These are simple, inexpensive pleasures, certainly not very rewarding for some, but which I wouldn't change for anything in the world.
And, of course, accompany this pleasure with a steaming hot chocolate and little biscuits concocted by Dear ! (Subscribe to her baking blog, you'll love it!)
For this occasion I treated myself to a new one Mug decorated by a graphic artist who has a universe that I love. I discovered it on YouTube and his Mug will accompany my autumn evenings.
4 / The pleasure of rediscovering my autumn wardrobe
Oui fashion however futile it may be, it is part of my pleasures!
I am looking forward to this season of bringing out my fluffy sweaters, having fun making shopping in my dressing room imagining other combinations for my outfits.
If you are new to this blog, I invite you to read my articles on this subject.
Improving your fall wardrobe
The perfect dressing room
An optimized dressing room
Another pleasure, dipping into my “special shopping” savings, to treat myself to a new item of knitwear without feeling guilty!
Skimming online sites like Sezane or Pretty Wear where I always find (alas) a little autumnal desire.
And this year by becoming a fashion consultant at Captain Turtle There is no shortage of temptations!
5/ The power of candles and autumn scents
Another must-have of the season: the smells. It's time to burn a cinnamon, ginger, orange, or fir scented candle to brighten up the house and feel good.
A little tip that I practice during this season, once my house is cleaned and tidy I spray a few drops of thyme, peppermint or orange essential oils on my cushions and rugs.
Then I light a candle and get to work on my computer. Smelling these seasonal scents makes me smile and puts me in a good mood to work.
6/ Take advantage of the fall to carry out your projects.
The end of the year is approaching and it might be time to take up a new leisure or work activity.
Start a blog! Write, rediscover the taste for reading, sewing. Do some knitting, take cooking or skydiving classes.
Learn yoga and meditation, get a movie theater subscription, or a Netflix subscription. Get involved in an association to help others.
Whatever the project, it must be important to you and make you happy.
7/ Take time for yourself and only for yourself
We reach a pivotal age where we become the parents of our parents, for those who are lucky enough to still have them. We also take care of our children and grandchildren. We try to remain pleasant and sexy for our spouses. And … We forget ourselves in the process.
So take advantage of the fall to cover yourself with anti-everything creams!
- Anti-rides,
- anti-pockets,
- anti-cellulite,
- concealer
- anti-fat
Treat yourself to a nice haircut, eat a nice rich cake, allow yourself an afternoon of chatting with your best friend. But not via Whatsapp or Messenger or other “social” networks! In real life in a tea room or while shopping.
Just one condition: please yourself and have a good time outside of your family and daily obligations. And, look at yourself with love!
8/ Treat yourself to books and watch series for a warm fall
If you like to read, autumn is the right season to do it. The days are getting shorter and you have time to indulge in a little reading.
For reading
It is during this period that I compose my list of books to read. Yes, for books as for everything, I make lists. And I prioritize certain titles that I can't wait to start.
I first go to literary blogs to discover new books or gems. Then I browse online sites, Amazon, Fnac and I note down what might tempt me.
And finally I stroll through my favorite bookstore, Sauramps in Montpellier. A book lover's paradise! I can spend a whole morning there!
I'm considering getting an e-reader so I can indulge my passion for reading without breaking the bank this year.
For the series
So here I'm going to be verbose because I'm passionate about series. Netflix is my best friend!
I consume an incalculable number of series, all different. I like everything (except horror series).
Otherwise I look at everything with a predilection for the police series. Netflix allowed me to discover Spanish, Swedish, Danish works, and really opened my cinematic horizons.
And, I admit, I watch romantic Christmas movies with glee!!! I love them, much to the dismay of my husband, who doesn't understand my choices because I can go from Games of Thrones au Christmas Prince !!!!
Find my playlist Netflix
I hope these ideas will make you love or at least appreciate fall.
Tell me in the comments how you see this season.
And remember that spring will come very soon and you will also take soon another year ! So enjoy all these warm moments that are offered to us.
I wish you a beautiful autumn
